Good-for-Nothing

Nicolaes Maes (1634-1693). The Idle Servant. 1655. Oil on wood. National Gallery, London, UK.
This picture by the artist Maes is entitled "The Idle Servant". Everybody is scolding her, even the cat who normally wouldn't bother with stuff like this as long as his food is served. How hard is it to just do your duty? Well, I wouldn't know of course as I haven't done an ounce of physical work my whole life, after all, we have humans for that. And humans have machines and machines have...  Anyway I was saying that I never did any physical work in my life. Nevertheless I find hard thankless labor fascinating: I can sit and watch for hours as my supporting staff bustles busily around me.
